GROUND DETECTOR (pre-LIM) TESTING Complete Ground Detector Ground Detector Remote Unit Ground Detectors in hospital Isolated Power Systems were banned in new construction in 1971 because of the limited electrical safety they provide to patients, particularly in the case of balanced fault conditions. Nevertheless, many of these devices are still in use in hospitals around the country and they need to be tested periodically just as Line Isolation Monitors (LIM) do (see Periodic Testing). Ground Detector testing by POWERSERVE is performed with test instruments designed specifically for this purpose. A series of resistive and capacitive faults are placed on each line to verify the operation of the Ground Detector's alarms and indicators and its' calibration. Whenever a Ground Detector is tested, the performance of any associated remote alarms or slave units is also checked. For more information on Ground Detectors, go to: |
