LINE ISOLATION MONITOR (LIM) TESTING

Old Analog LIM                                       New Digital LIM

The Line Isolation Monitor (LIM) in an Isolated Power System is an electronic device which continuosly monitors the IPS and immediately detects line-to-ground faults in the Operating Room or ICU/CCU, then sounds an alarm - warning the medical team of compromised isolation of the electrical power circuits.

LIM testing is required by NFPA 99: Section 3 following installation and prior to being placed into service (see Commissioning).  NFPA 99 also requires LIM testing after any repair or renovation and at intervals of not more than (6) months for analog LIMs and (12) months for digital LIMs (see Periodic Testing).

LIM testing by POWERSERVE is performed with test instruments designed specifically for this purpose.

A full series of resistive and capacitive fault testing is conducted on each line and on both lines simultaneously to verify operation of the LIM's alarms and indicators and the LIM's calibration.  Whenever a LIM is tested, the performance of any associated remote alarms or slave units is also checked.
