General Remarks

The Surgeon is considered the "General" in the Operating Room and is required to remain alert to many procedures and activities within the OR.  He relies very heavily on his immediate Surgical Team for support inside the OR and on all "behind the scenes" support teams who keep his world in order on a routine basis.  This includes the support of those who maintain the physical environment, the supply of instruments and equipment for procedures and the reliability of the medical gas system and the Essential Electric System (EES).

IPS Pertinent Info

We have encountered only a few surgeons who are aware of the purpose for Isolated Power.  On one occasion we spoke with a Surgeon who, like an airplane pilot examining his aircraft, was in the habit of checking the OR's IPS panel prior to each procedure by depressing the LIM's "push-to-test" button just to see if it would go into alarm.  Seems like a good idea to us.  See Isolated Power.
